Running to Cure Cancer!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Some of you have heard the rumors and I am here to tell you that they are all true. Well some of them. I, Lauren Glickman, am training to run the DC Marathon on March 29, 2008. You better believe it because it's true.
I'm sure some of you are wondering am I crazy? Am I capable? Am I the same person you think you know? The answer to all these questions is yes. It all started at the end of August when I made the tough decision to make some changes in my life. Feeling a little lost I followed the footsteps of the immortal Forrest Gump. I started running. Each week I was running a little farther, a little harder, a little longer and then I got a card in the mail about a Team in Training info session. It was at this information session surrounded by all these motivated people that I realized that I could do this.
Something a lot of you don't know is that a very close friend of mine passed away in tragic accident this past summer. Eric Tang was in the process of changing the world and his life was cut short at 26 years. We share the same birthday on January 16th and I was concerned about meeting this milestone (the BIG 25) without him there. I know Eric didn't die of cancer, he left living life to the fullest. That is how I intend to live my life and follow suite. Everyday to the fullest and I know I will change the world.
I think that by supporting an organization like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society I am making a big impact to change the world. For every person who is suffering from cancer they are making strides to ease or end that suffering. I know that Eric would proud of this choice I've made and that's why I know I will complete all 26 miles. One mile for each amazing year Eric would have lived.
I definitely will have Eric with me in my heart through out the training I have in front me and during the race. I've got my mantra, "All People Be Happy!" but I will need more. I need the support of all of my friends and family to complete this task. The work the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society would not be possible without it. I am asking everyone to make a donation to support my training. The best way to support my effort is with a pledge per mile donation. Give anywhere from $1-$10 per mile for each mile that I will complete. Thanks to everyone for all your support it's a big decision but I know it can do it with all of you behind me. Thanks Again!
